“I believe communication between physician and patient is very important, and I want patients to be actively involved in the decision making for their own health care. I also feel patients should embrace preventative medicine and be proactive in their health care.”

Dr. Lum graduated from the University of California at Davis. He completed his internship and residency at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and later became Chief Resident for the Department of Medicine at OHSU. Dr. Lum completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of California in San Francisco. He has received several honors and awards including the House Staff Teaching Award at OHSU and being inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Lum is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and a fellow in the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG). He served as ACG Governor representing the state of Oregon. He previously served as the Deputy of Member Engagement of the Crohn’s & Colitis IBD Qorus quality improvement program and is the Physician Champion of IBD Qorus for The Oregon Clinic Gastroenterology East. He is Co-director of IBD RADIUS, which is a telemedicine program that helps address health care of IBD patients in rural areas throughout the country. He currently co-hosts the annual IBD Frontiers educational conference in Portland.

In addition to spending time with his wife, three adult children, and two labradoodles, Dr. Lum is an avid road cyclist. He cherishes his weekend cycling excursions with his riding buddies. Dr. Lum’s other major interest is travelling to new places. He grew up on a family farm near Napa Valley and continues to root for the local Northern California sport’s teams (SF 49ers, SF Giants, and Golden State Warriors) but continues to support the Blazers and Timbers!
