Margie Hertz was drawn to mental health care after volunteering in the homeless community where she witnessed how a person’s well-being is greatly shaped by genetic, environmental, and trauma-related factors. Those experiences shaped her understanding of the complex and delicate nature of mental health, and strengthened her belief that people simply want to be heard, share their stories, and find meaningful solutions. Being part of the process that helps individuals move toward a more stable and fulfilling life is what keeps her engaged in her field.
Margie is passionate about reducing the stigma around mental health and believes that true wellness means caring for the whole person, mind and body together. Throughout her career, Margie has worked with individuals facing both chronic and acute mental health conditions across a wide range of needs and stages of care. Her approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and patient-centered. Margie works closely with each patient to identify evidence-based treatment options that align with their individual goals, and she is committed to creating a space that feels safe, supportive, and free of judgment.
Originally from Massachusetts, Margie has spent most of her life in the greater Portland area. She loves the city for its people, culture, and accessible, connected feel. She has two adult children and four grandchildren, and family time is something she treasures. Outside of the office, she enjoys exploring antiques and learning the history behind them, crafting, gardening, and traveling.
