Dr. Andrew P. Mahoney is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in shoulder and elbow surgery. He chose orthopedics because it lets him use science, complex problem solving, and technical skills to help people move better. Not many doctors get to help an athlete throw a ball, a mother lift her child, or a mechanic get back to overhead work. Whether a goal is complex or simple, like helping someone sleep through the night without pain, Dr. Mahoney finds it very rewarding to help his patients restore function.
Dr. Mahoney treats many kinds of patients. They include elite athletes seeking peak performance, weekend tennis players who just want to play without pain, and older patients who simply want to enjoy daily life without hurting. He enjoys the variety of surgeries that help him customize treatment, from small technical repairs using a tiny camera (called arthroscopic surgery) to bigger open surgeries like shoulder replacements. Regardless of why they are in his office, Dr. Mahoney takes time to get to know each patient and build a plan that fits their needs. He loves running into patients around town and seeing how much their lives have improved.
Dr. Mahoney loves living in Portland because of all the outdoor activities and delicious food nearby. Happiest outside, he enjoys skiing at Mt. Hood, biking around town, and playing golf at one of the many beautiful courses in town. Dr. Mahoney has a young family with three kids. He is excited to watch them grow up in the community’s welcoming environment, exploring everything Portland and the surrounding area has to offer.
Dr. Mahoney is fluent in Spanish.
