Four victims of the industrial accident at Nippon Dynawave paper mill in Longview, WA, were taken to the Legacy Oregon Burn Center for treatment.
Dr. Niknam Eshraghi with The Oregon Clinic General Surgery & Burn Specialists and also the Burn Center’s medical director, spoke to local news outlets to explain the nature of chemical burns caused by white liquor, the highly alkaline substance used in the papermaking process. He also shared the recovery process for these types of burns.
Dr. Eshraghi shared praise for the first responders, company representatives, and hospital staff for their coordinated response to the accident.
