Patients may be concerned regarding news stories about a proposed national autism registry. Please be assured The Oregon Clinic follows all HIPAA laws and regulations to protect patient privacy. We will not disclose patient information except as required by law or approved in writing by the patient.
The HIPAA Privacy Rule establishes national standards to protect individuals’ medical records and other individually identifiable health information, which we collectively define as “protected health information” (PHI). Additional Oregon privacy laws exist that complement HIPAA.
Under our HIPAA obligations, patients of The Oregon Clinic have the following rights:
- Right to access their medical records (to inspect and to copy)
- Right to amend their medical records
- Right to an accounting of any disclosures of their medical record to others
- Right to restrict or limit The Oregon Clinic’s sharing of their PHI to others and to their insurance
- Right to request specified method of communication
