Colon cancer remains a common and deadly cancer—it is the second most common cause of cancer death in men and women in the United States.

Colonoscopy remains the gold standard for colon cancer screening. If you have a personal history of polyps, colon cancer or family history of colon cancer, colonoscopy is the only recommended test.

Colorectal cancer diagnoses have doubled in people under 50 in the past few decades. The US Preventive Services Task Force and the American Cancer Society now recommend colorectal cancer screening to begin at age 45. Talk with your provider about what is right for you and check with your insurance carrier about your coverage.
