“What really drives me is being able to come in every day and help people. I don’t think there are many professions where day in and day out you’re making an impact on other people’s lives and helping them better their overall health.”

Josh chose gastroenterology because it allows him to see a variety of different medical illnesses while also dealing with complex disease processes. This makes every day both unique and interesting and keeps him motivated to continue working in the field.

Josh likes educating patients so they can understand why their care team is ordering certain tests and what they need to do long term to improve their overall health. He believes there is nothing more satisfying than helping a patient with serious illness improve their overall quality of life through the combination of medication, therapeutic interventions, and lifestyle changes.

Josh likes living in Portland because of all the different food options. He also likes being close to both the mountains and the coast as he spends most of his free time doing outdoor activities like mountain biking, rock climbing, and snowboarding.
