Dr. Shannon K. Lewis Joins The Oregon Clinic’s West Hills Gastroenterology Division

The Oregon Clinic welcomes Shannon K. Lewis, MD to its West Hills Gastroenterology division. In addition to being board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. Lewis completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at UCLA Medical Center. Her special interests are in celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease as well as defecatory disorders.

 “I am extremely pleased that a physician as talented as Dr. Lewis has joined our medical staff,” said Dr. Rodger Sleven, gastroenterologist with The Oregon Clinic. “Dr. Lewis is a tremendous asset to our practice.  She has the breadth of knowledge and diverse experience required to diagnose and treat a wide variety of gastroenterological conditions.”

Dr. Lewis received a Bachelor’s of Arts in biology from Pomona College, Claremont, Calif. and continued on to Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Ill., where she earned a medical degree magna cum laude. While attending medical school she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the recipient of the Gunnar Memorial Scholarship, a financial award given to a fourth-year medical student who has shown academic promise in pursuing a medical career. She went on to complete an internship and residency in internal medicine and worked as a hospitalist at UCLA Medical Center in LA. During this time she received the Commendation for Excellence in Medical Student Teaching award three times in a row.

Dr. Lewis has conducted research in cell biology, genetics and gastroenterology/ hepatology at several hospitals and research centers, including the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, Calif. She has published scientific articles and made presentations at medical conferences on a wide range of topics.
