Pathology Interpretation
A visit to a dermatologist often results in the removal of a piece of skin or a skin growth. This is called a biopsy or excision in which a specimen (sample of skin) is removed. This specimen is then processed in our on-site state of the art dermatopathology lab that is certified by the Laboratory Compliance Section, Oregon Public Health Division.
Specimens are prepared by our laboratory technicians for microscopic examination. Your doctor will read and interpret the slide(s) and then render a diagnosis. Occasionally the slide(s) may be sent to a dermatopathology consultant for interpretation.
