The Oregon Clinic

The Oregon Clinic, the state’s largest multi-specialty, physician-owned medical practice, is proud to announce the addition of a new general surgery and burn-specialty group that joined The Oregon Clinic on July 1.

Members of the Surgical and Burn Specialists, a division of The Oregon Clinic, are Nathan A. Kemalyan, MD, managing partner of the new division; Joseph F. Pulito, MD [now retired]; Niknam Eshraghi, MD; and Hsinchen Jean Lin, MD.  Kerry O’Brien, FNP-BC, a family nurse practitioner (EDIT: no longer with The Oregon Clinic), also practices with the group which was formerly known as The Surgical Center.

Surgical & Burn Specialists, located at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center and serving Oregon Burn Center at Emanuel, emphasizes general surgery, burn treatment, wound care, and skin grafting. The new division’s practice involves surgeries of the abdomen and intestines (including esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gall bladder, and bile ducts); diseases of the skin, breast and hernias. Up to 75 percent of the group’s work is with burn victims, and the clinicians treat patients of all ages, from birth to advanced age. The physicians treat all types of burn injuries, the most common of which are from flame, scald, vapor flash, contact, chemical exposure, and electrical injury.

According to the National Burn Repository of the American Burn Association, about 450,000 Americans annually suffer from burn injuries needing medical treatment. Hospitalizations from burn injuries total 45,000 annually. The percentage of patients admitted to specialized facilities such as the Oregon Burn Center have increased steadily in recent years, with growing recognition of the special needs of burn patients and continuing advances in care.

“The new Surgical and Burn Specialists division bring years of expertise and an innovative approach to burn treatment. We are very pleased that such a fine group of surgeons will be joining The Oregon Clinic,” said President and CEO Craig S. Fausel, MD.  “With our strong team of highly qualified physicians and surgeons, we are ready to expand to this much needed service.”

The doctors will maintain privileges at Legacy Emanuel, Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center, Providence Portland Medical Center and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. Their outpatient office will continue to be located at 501 N. Graham St., Suite 555, in Portland, and at 6485 SW Borland Rd., Suite E, in Tualatin [now located at 19250 SW 65th Ave., Suite 240, in Tualatin].

Drs. Dr. Pulito, also board certified in general surgery completed his general surgery residency at Emanuel. “Our surgical group is pleased to add our practice in burn care, complex wound care and general surgery to the broad scope of services offered by The Oregon Clinic,” said Dr. Kemalyan. “We sought association with The Oregon Clinic because of its reputation as a premier health care delivery organization and because of the strength of its core business-support systems. We are grateful that The Oregon Clinic deemed our program to be a worthy addition to its portfolio of specialty practices.”
