The Oregon Clinic Opens New 100,000 Square Feet Sustainable Patient Care Center in Portland’s Growing Gateway District

The Oregon Clinic

The Oregon Clinic today announced its new medical office building located at 1111 NE 99th Ave at the Gateway Transit Center is now open for business. The 100,000 square foot building is expected to earn a Silver Certification from LEEDs and houses modern offices for four medical divisions of The Oregon Clinic with onsite services such as a new Imaging center with a state-of-the-art MRI and CT scanner, a sleep lab, and physical therapy and lab services.

The opening of this building is the culmination of the past 12 years of business success for The Oregon Clinic.  The Oregon Clinic has grown from a 35 physician group in 1994 to a group of medical specialties comprising of nearly 120 providers today. In the new building, more than half of the providers will be practicing and approximately 200 employees will now be coming to the Gateway district for work every day.

“We are proud to offer one-stop convenience for our patients, many of whom have difficulty traveling from office to office,” said Dr. Lou Libby, chief medical officer and co-president of The Oregon Clinic. “Patients with complex illnesses who need a team approach will benefit from the presence of cooperating specialists in association with onsite ancillary services.”

A total of four divisions will be relocating offices to the new building.  The Oregon Clinic Medical Office Building will be the home to the following divisions of The Oregon Clinic and associated services:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Cardiovascular Medicine including nuclear cardiac imaging
  • Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (east side)
  • Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine
  • Gastroenterology ambulatory endoscopy center
  • Imaging Center with 64 slice CT scan and 1.5 Tessla MRI, as well as digital radiography and ultrasound
  • Sleep laboratory
  • Clinical Laboratory (supplied via Providence Health System)
  • Durable Medical Supplies (supplied via Providence Home Services)
  • Rehabilitation Services (supplied via Providence Health System)

About The Building – A Commitment to Sustainability

In designing the new building, patient access and convenience, and environmental sustainability were the top concerns. 

Access:

The building is accessible by light rail, car, bicycle, and on foot, with the Gateway transit stop just steps from the entrance. A 200-space patient-only parking lot offers plenty of room for patient parking.

Convenience:

The patient center is a one-stop facility for patients who can have tests such as MRIs, CT Scans, x-rays and minor surgical tests done onsite. For patients with complicated conditions, the convenience of all services under one roof helps save time and improves care.

Green:

The building is a “green” building and the first medical facility in Portland to harvest rainwater to reduce water waste.  It features sustainable principles in design, construction, and operation, with Silver certification in LEEDS (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) expected. LEED emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. LEED recognizes achievements and promotes expertise in green building. LEED standards are high markers for sustainability, access to alternative transportation, optimized energy performance, reduction of water use and many other environmentally friendly aspects.

The patient care center is the culmination of efforts by Gerding/Edlen Development Company; Giffin, Bolte, Jurgens Architects; GBD Architects; Hoffman Construction Company; the Portland Development Commission; and TriMet.
