Dr. Douglas York Joins the Westside Surgical Specialists Division

Douglas York, MD, has joined Westside Surgical Specialists at The Oregon Clinic. Dr. York is a general surgeon with special interests in hernia surgery, biliary disease, breast disease, and colon cancer.  He recently completed a surgical internship and residency at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).

Dr. York received his medical degree in 2007 from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, where he was a North Carolina Board of Governors Medical Scholar for three consecutive years. He was also the recipient of an NIH Short Term Research Training Grant and was awarded the Merck Index Award for academic excellence and the Pfizer Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship.

“We are extremely pleased that a physician as talented as Dr. York will be part of our medical staff, and we look forward to working with him,” said Jason Gilster, MD, FACS.  “Dr. York is an excellent surgeon and will bring many valuable skills to the group.”

Originally from Kernersville, NC, Dr. York graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002 with a BS in chemistry. He is the author of numerous research articles and frequently presents research findings at medical conferences and assemblies. Additionally, he is certified in advanced trauma life support and advanced cardiac life support.

Dr. York resides in Portland and enjoys mountain biking, hiking, cooking, and college basketball.
