Necklift (Platysmaplasty)

About

As our neck muscles weaken and separate over time, and our skin becomes less elastic and begins to sag, the neck can become droopy and the muscles can stretch apart and form bands. This can make an otherwise young-looking face look older and heavy. Sometimes all that is required is removal of excess fat and tightening of the neck muscle through a very small incision. Other patients may require the tightening of the skin in addition to tightening and redraping of the underlying neck musculature. Results will vary depending on the age of the patient and the underlying facial anatomy. As always, patients who are in good health, do not have weight fluctuations, and do not smoke are better candidates. Often this procedure is combined with other aesthetic procedures for a balanced rejuvenation of the face, eyes, and neck.

What to Expect

Loose skin and a loss of contour in the neck can be treated with neck lifting. Often performed as part of a full face lift, isolated neck lifting may also be done when patients do not need the extent of a full facial rejuvenation. Neck lifting removes excess neck fat and skin and improves neck contour.
