Laser Hair, Vein & Pigment Removal

The removal of unwanted hair can be comfortably performed in the setting of our MedSpa with our well-trained estheticians. This technology allows us to selectively target hair follicles and deliver energy specifically to the hair follicle, giving us the ability for permanent hair reduction after a series of treatments.

We feature the Cynosure Elite MPX laser, which is unique in its ability to blend two different laser wavelengths for optimal results. The ability to use these two wavelengths also allows us to treat any skin type safely and more effectively eliminates the targeted hair follicles.

What to Expect

Please note before your treatment:

  • Laser hair removal does not work well for “peach fuzz” or any thin, light hair. The best candidate will have thicker, coarse, darker hair.
  • People who have darker skin tones may not be good candidates for laser hair removal due to increased absorption of the laser by skin cells, and higher potential for poor results.
  • No waxing or plucking for 6 weeks prior to laser treatment.

Treatment Preparation:

24 Hours Prior to Treatment

Please shave all existing hair from the soon-to-be treated areas 24 hours before your laser hair removal appointment. Shaving the treated areas allows the laser procedure to be completed quicker, and it will mean less discomfort and/or pain during the hair removal process itself.

If too much hair is present on the skin surface during treatment, the laser will target that existing hair as well as the follicle underneath the skin. When that happens, the surface hair will be burned by the laser, and subsequently patients’ skin can be burned too.

The Day of Treatment

Do not shave the morning of your appointment. When patients arrive for their hair removal appointment, the skin must be clean. You should skip your standard applications of lotion, makeup, perfume and deodorant on the treatment day. Any substances on the skin surface during treatment can refract the laser’s energy and interfere with the laser’s effectiveness.

For patients who have a low pain tolerance, or who are especially concerned about experiencing discomfort, you may take a mild oral painkiller like tylenol 15-20 minutes before their laser treatment.

Precautions before and after laser treatment:

Avoid sun exposure for at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment. Avoid sun during all treatments, and for at least 1 week after the final treatment.

A broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen or SPF 30 of higher should be applied whenever exposed to sunlight.

Expectations following treatment:

Immediately following treatment, the area may show slight redness and/or swelling. Blistering may occur.

General skin care:

During the healing phase, the area must be treated delicately. Do not rub, scratch, or pick. If a crust develops, let it fall of on its own.

Apply a thin layer of ointment to the treated area several times a day to keep the area moist. Do not scrub the area, pat the area dry. Do not shave over the area if swelling, crusting, or scabbing is present.

If swelling occurs, apply ice. Wrap the ice in a soft cloth. Discomfort of stinging may be relieved with Tylenol.

If makeup is allowed, it must be applied and removed delicately. Excess rubbing can open treated area increasing the chances of infection and scarring.

Avoid sports and/or strenuous exercise for 2-3 days following treatment for hair removal, and 7-10 days for veins. Walking is encouraged.

In case of signs of infection (pus, tenderness, fever), contact the office immediately.

Treated areas will exfoliate for push out in approximately 2 weeks.

Post-treatment skin care instructions must be followed to prevent any complications. Please contact the office with questions or concerns about your treatment.
