The Oregon Clinic welcomes Vikram Sahni, MD, to its Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine division. Dr. Sahni is board certified in internal medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and is an ABIM candidate for board certification in pulmonary disease. Most recently, he was a chief fellow at Stanford University Medical Center. His areas of interest include respiratory failure, sepsis, interventional pulmonology, pulmonary hypertension and chronic cough.
Dr. Sahni’s medical career began in his native country, India. He received a medical degree in 2004 from the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India, where he was in the top three percent of his class. After completing an internship at Employee State Insurance Hospital in New Delhi, Dr. Sahni moved to the United States. After certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates he gained clinical experience with both adult and pediatric patients during an externship at Whittier Family Medical Center in Whittier, Calif. In 2005, he entered residency training in internal medicine at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, then began a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford, Calif., in 2009.
Dr. Sahni’s clinical experience includes working as a critical care physician and ICU attending physician at Kaiser Permanente ICU in Santa Clara, Calif., and as an adult hospitalist at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier, Calif.  In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Sahni was the winner of the 15th Indian
Academy of Pediatrics Quiz (2002). He has delivered poster presentations at numerous medical conferences and has published research in peer-reviewed medical journals. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
“We are honored that a physician as highly trained, talented and enthusiastic as Dr. Vikram Sahni has joined our medical staff,” said Dr. David Hotchkin, chief of The Oregon Clinic’s pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine division. Dr. Sahni comes highly recommended from Stanford University Medical Center. His clinical interest will mesh well with the care provided in our clinic, and allow us to expand in the fields of pulmonary hypertension and interventional bronchoscopy. We are very excited to be working with him,” he said.
Dr. Sahni now resides in Portland. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife and children, traveling, and participating in outdoor and adventure sports, including sky diving, hiking and snowboarding.
“I am very excited to join the talented team of physicians at the Pulmonary Division of The Oregon Clinic,” Dr. Sahni said. “I believe a physician needs to consider more than a diseased organ, more even than the whole patient; he must view the patient in his world. I strive to treat my patients with the same compassion and respect as I would like to be treated when I am not in the best of health, “he said.
