The Oregon Clinic

PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 17, 2013 — The Oregon Clinic is pleased to welcome Mark P. Cahill, MD to its gastroenterology group. Dr. Cahill is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, completing a gastroenterology fellowship at University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center earlier this year. He will focus on colon cancer screening and prevention, gastro-esophageal reflux, inflammatory bowel disease, and swallowing dysfunction.
“My family and I are thrilled to be back in the Pacific Northwest. Before leaving Portland for gastroenterology training in Memphis, I had the fortune of working with several of the gastroenterologists from The Oregon Clinic through my work as an internal medicine resident and then later as a hospitalist. Returning to Portland to join this highly respected practice is a great honor. I look forward to providing my patients with the high quality, compassionate, and collaborative care that The Oregon Clinic’s doctors are known for,” said Dr. Mark Cahill.
Dr. Cahill received his Bachelor of Science with Highest Honors in psychology from Montana State University in 2002. During his undergraduate studies, he spent a year abroad as an exchange student at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Cahill then moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington School of Medicine, during which time he received a Medical Student Research Training Program grant. From 2006-2009, he completed his residency in internal medicine at the Providence Portland Medical Center. In 2010, Dr. Cahill left the Pacific Northwest for a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.
Dr. Cahill frequently presents at gastroenterology conferences and has been published in medical journals including Surgical Endoscopy, Journal of Investigative Medicine, and American Journal of Gastroenterology. He is an active member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Physicians, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Cahill recently presented at Digestive Diseases Week 2013 in Orlando on the emerging association between chronic hepatitis C and renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer).
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Cahill joining us. We first met him when he was a hospitalist at Providence Willamette Falls. When we learned he was going to a GI fellowship, we kept our eyes on him as he is so good with patients and is a kind, compassionate physician. We felt he would fit our practice both in his approach with patients and in his detailed approach to medical problems. He and his wife love the Pacific Northwest and we feel fortunate to have them here with us,” stated Michael F. Sheffield, MD, The Oregon Clinic.
Dr. Cahill is married with an adorable daughter just starting kindergarten as well as a one-eyed cat. When he’s not working he enjoys hiking, skiing, travel, and exploring the Portland dining scene. Dr. Cahill practices at the Oregon City and Tualatin offices of The Oregon Clinic Gastroenterology – South (formerly Gastroenterology Specialists of Oregon).
