The Oregon Clinic

PORTLAND, Ore., May 2, 2013 – The Oregon Clinic, the state’s largest multi-specialty, physician-owned medical practice, is adding to its group of clinics a well-respected, private gastroenterology practice, Gastroenterology Specialists of Oregon (GSO), in September 2013. The addition of GSO, with offices in Oregon City, Tualatin, and Newberg, will grow The Oregon Clinic by twelve board-certified gastroenterology (GI) physicians and more than seventy clinic employees.
As one of the top referral centers on the west coast, and one of the largest in the nation, The Oregon Clinic’s board-certified GI physicians are recognized leaders in caring for patients with diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, and liver. With the addition of GSO, The Oregon Clinic gains a wide-range of GI and sub-specialty expertise from the following doctors:
  • Brian A. Applebaum, M.D.
  • Michelle C. Beilstein, M.D.
  • C.Y. Michael Chang, M.D.
  • Stephen L. Chen, M.D.
  • Jeffrey M. Douglass, M.D.
  • Jeffrey D.Duman, MD
  • Ronald J. Lew, M.D., FASGE
  • S. Jon Mason, M.D.
  • Monina F. Pascua, M.D., PharmD
  • Mark S. Schiele, M.D.
  • Michael F. Sheffield, M.D.
  • Erik J. Van Kleek , M.D.
“The Oregon Clinic is pleased to build on our long-standing relationship with GSO to meet the health care needs of our patients and provide a team approach to medicine,” said Craig Fausel, MD, president/CEO and gastroenterologist with The Oregon Clinic. “We are honored to have these twelve outstanding and skilled physicians join us and expand the GI options for The Oregon Clinic’s patients and referring physicians.” The GSO physicians will continue to practice at their current locations and hospitals (Legacy Meridian Park Hospital, Willamette Falls Hospital, and Providence Newberg Medical Center), including a state-of-the-art outpatient endoscopy center specializing in colonoscopy screening and advanced ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, and therapeutic endoscopy.
Dr. Michael F. Sheffield, MD, gastroenterologist at GSO, shared his enthusiasm about joining The Oregon Clinic: “We have always held the physicians of The Oregon Clinic in high regard and have worked collegially with their GI group for years. With the changes in healthcare it has become increasingly difficult to operate as a smaller group, and in order for our group to thrive, it became clear that joining The Oregon Clinic was the best decision. We look forward to a long and successful union as we bring these two excellent groups together and continue delivering patients the highest level of GI care.”
With the addition of GSO, The Oregon Clinic now offers patients access to 44 of the top gastroenterology specialists and sub-specialists in their field at several locations throughout the greater Portland-Vancouver area. Patients can reach The Oregon Clinic’s GI divisions at: Portland Gastroenterology at 503-963-2707 (locations in east Portland, Milwaukie, and Vancouver), West Hills Gastroenterology at 503-297-8081 (locations in west Portland and Tanasbourne), and Gastroenterology Specialists of Oregon at 503-692-3750 (locations south of Portland: Oregon City, Tualatin, and Newberg).
