CO2 Laser

About

CO2 laser is generally considered the gold standard among methods of skin resurfacing. It is effective for smoothing facial wrinkles and softening lines. It is also useful in treating pigmentation irregularities, removing sun spots, age spots, as well as minimizing acne and surgical scars. It can be precisely manipulated to control its penetration and thermal effects.

CO2 laser works by vaporizing damaged tissues. The effect stimulates the body’s natural production of collagen fibers. Within a week, your own skin cells will rejuvenate thereby creating new, youthful and healthy skin.

First generation CO2 lasers were problematic, causing more extensive tissue trauma. While effective in resurfacing the skin, patients experienced significant post procedure discomfort and extended healing times. Furthermore, first generation CO2 laser use was associated with an increased risk of undesirable pigmentation and scarring.

Newer fractional CO2 lasers provide finer control. Compared to earlier models, the fractional CO2 lasers eliminate all the untoward effects while retaining excellent results of skin resurfacing. Fractional technology uses multiple microscopic laser beams to create small tunnels of ablation. In addition, it can be precisely manipulated to control the depth and penetration of injury. This is crucial when to adjusting for different areas of the face, and for variations in skin type and pigmentation. Since it leaves bridges of untouched skin, there is reduced heat accumulation and maximal cooling of surrounding skin. The result is the effectiveness of CO2 laser but a dramatic decrease in pain and recovery time.

What to Expect

Fractional CO2 can be accomplished with convenience and minimal discomfort. Application of a topical anesthetic prevents procedural discomfort, and any post procedural discomfort is mild, roughly equivalent to a sunburn. Within 2-3 days, the skin will begin to peel, and in 4-6 days, makeup use can be resumed. Good skin care is always important before and after the procedure. Additional procedures such as dermal injections, surgery and Botox can be performed on the same visit. In less than one week, one can expect to enjoy the benefits of youthful appearing skin.

Our goal is to use the many available tools to give you the look you desire.

FAQ

Does it hurt?

It can be a little uncomfortable, but our doctors have created a protocol that makes the treatment very tolerable. Most of our patients have a very comfortable experience, feeling like they have a bit of a sunburn by the end of the procedure.

Is there any downtime?

Yes, for a few days. The more intense treatments will average about 5 days of downtime, less intense treatments around 3 days. After my treatment, I was out running errands 3 days later with a scarf. I looked a little windburned. In fact a few people asked me if I’d been skiing!

Is it expensive?

You get what you pay for. This procedure is only done by our experienced doctors at the clinic. And although it requires more money up front, it ends up costing less than buying serums, expensive creams, facials and other small facial treatments here and there that quickly add up to a great deal of money, with less of a final result. In addition, the benefits can last for years.
